Achievements

The Abattoir Hygiene Rating Scheme is the system used to rate abattoirs in terms of their performance during the annual Hygiene Assessment System (HAS)

Three (3) audits are done throughout every financial year and the results are compared with other Abattoirs and winners are allocated based on the highest scoring scale.

Vryburg Abattoir received position No. 3 in the Rating Scheme during 2016.
In 2017 and 2018, we were awarded first place for Certificate of Excellence.

Food Safety Audits

Besides being audited 3 times annually by the provincial Department of Agriculture on the Hygiene Assessment System (HAS), the abattoir also gets audited by Intertek on Food Safety Assessment (FSA) on an annual basis.

FSA certification applies to Slaughtering, Processing and Dispatch of beef carcasses, beef primary cuts (Chilled and Frozen), beef offal and frozen boxed chicken.

The FSA’s objective is to ensure that we, as the abattoir, are producing meat that complies with the requirements of SANS 10049 for prerequisite programmes (PRPs), ISO/TS 22002
prerequisite programmes on food safety,
Codex Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles,
Food Safety Management System requirements as guided by the
Global Safety Initiative (GFSI), Applicable laws, regulations and compulsory specifications.

Furthermore, for the Vryburg Abattoir to prepare for such audits, we have assembled a HACCP team which comprises top management, food safety manager, HR, Department Heads and plant supervisors amongst others.
This helps the team to combat any non-conformances arising at any time, which might cause risks to our product and subsequently our customers.
